Allergy immunotherapy injections or allergy shotsDealing with troublesome watery eyes, runny nose, coughing, sneezing, congestion and/or a sore throat takes its toll on your day-to-day activities and can affect your overall well-being.

At Mid-Kansas Ear, Nose & Throat Associates we can help you get relief from allergy symptoms. The first step is to conduct allergy testing to find out which allergens you’re sensitive to.

If you’ve tried conservative methods without relief, your provider may recommend allergy shots (also commonly referred to as allergy injections, immunotherapy injections or allergy desensitization). Allergy shots are effective and can treat multiple allergens at the same time.

Allergy injections are made individually for each patient at Mid-Kansas ENT by our specially trained allergy technicians. The injections contain small amounts of the allergens you are sensitive to, based on your allergy testing conducted at our clinic.

The dose of your injection will be gradually increased each week to build up your tolerance or immunity to the allergens, thereby dramatically reducing or eliminating your symptoms.

When will I start seeing relief with allergy shots?

Patients typically notice improvement of allergy symptoms by the time they reach their maintenance treatment level, which can be anywhere from 3 to 12 months.

The goal of allergy shots is to get your body to start producing antibodies that block your specific antigens, which in effect desensitizes the body to your offending allergens.

Everyone’s treatment and timeframe look different. It may take several months before significant improvement is noted, and treatment length is generally 3-5 years.

Success from allergy shots also greatly depends on remaining consistent with your treatments, controlling environmental factors, when possible, etc.

Please note that allergy shots are administered in our office by our allergy technicians, and only when a physician is also available, in the slight chance of an allergic reaction. These injections do not contain medicine or drugs; they are allergy extracts. At Mid-Kansas ENT, we do not exceed 0.5 cc of concentrated extract.

We also offer oral immunotherapy (allergy drops) and allergy toothpaste as effective treatments for allergy symptoms.
